?Introduction

Zacaria Moussaoui was a member of al Qaeda. He was a terrorist who involved in plans of 9/11. First he admitted that he was involved with al Qaeda, but claimed he was not involved in the 9/11 attacks. But later he admitted that he knew about the 9/11 attacks and did nothing to stop them. He wanted to die so he could become a martyr. But the jurors rejected it. Finally he sentenced to life in prison.

?3 Paraphrases

Moussaoui was born in France of Moroccan and speaks 4 different languages. In 1992 He moved to London to improve his English speaking skills and also went to college there. While he was there, he discovered Islamic extremism. He came to the U.S in 2001, and enrolled in a flight school in Oklahoma. He dropped out before his graduation and went to an al Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan. His visa expired in May, so he was held at a local jail.
On August 16, 2001, Moussaoui was arrested by Harry Samit of the FBI and INS agents in Minnesota. Because he was charged with an immigration violation. 1 month later he was moved from Minnesota to New York, where he is held as a material witness. On December 11, 2001, Moussaoui was indicted by a federal grand jury in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on 6 felony charges which are related to the 9/11 attacks. On March 27, 2006, Moussaoui testified that he and Richard Reid had planned to crash a hijacked airplane into the White House in the 9/11 attacks. But it was too late. It was after he lied and 3000 people died.
Moussaoui didn’t even warn anybody about the attacks after he was arrested in August. The Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal. So Moussaoui sent Judge Brinkema a letter saying that he wanted to plead guilty. The judge found him mentally competent and accepted his plea. On February 6, 2006 Jury selection begun in the trial to determine Moussaoui’s sentence life or death. So finally on april 3, 2006 they found that Moussaoui’s lying to federal agents was responsible for deaths on 9/11 and he was found eligible for Death Penalty. But about 1 month later jurors rejected to agree on a sentence of death .Here’s the reanson of why they thought he should get a life in prison: During the trial, judge said ‘Mr. Moussaoui, you came here to be a martyr in a great big bang of glory. But to paraphrase the pet T.S.Eliot,instead you will die with a whimper.’ When he tried to interrupt, the judge said ‘You will never get a chance to speak again and that’s an appropriate ending’.After being sentenced to life in prison, Moussaoui clapped and claimed β€œ America, you lost, I won” .

? Conclusion
why is this case famous? Because 9/11 is one of the biggest terrorist attacks. Everybody knows about it . It destroyed World Trade Center buildings and many people’s heart. We could have saved their lives if Moussaoui didn’t lie. It wouldn’t happen if he warned sombody about the attacks. He didn’t even say he was sorry. He did it for himself. He wanted to be honored as a hero. But he got what he deserved. he senteced to life in prison and live in shame for the rest of his life. If they had killed him, he wouldn’t have the feeling that he had failed. Life in prison will be really tough for him. Imagine a life without any joy. now he has to live with himself. I mean honestly something is wrong with his brain. wtf was he thinking? Is he insane or retarded? The reason of why he lied is just because he wanted his plan would be successful? So he could be a hero? It’s ridiculous. Someday he may regret his horrible mistake and cry, β€œ Oh my gosh. What the hell have i done? ”
